In 2016, InnovaCare Health announced that it had joined Learning and Action Network (LAN) as a committed partner to the latter’s Health Care Payment model. LAN’s primary mission is ensuring that the entire healthcare industry eventually moves from quantity-based to quality-based payment models. InnovaCare was proud to announce its support of LAN’s vision to tying 30% of America’s care payments to its APMs (alternative payment methods) by 2016 and eventually increasing this figure to 50% in 2018.

Rick Shinto, MD

Rick Shinto has headed InnovaCare since 2012 as CEO and President. Before joining the healthcare company, Shinto led Aveta Inc. as CEO and President. Today, he continues to serve as InnovaCare’s chief executive officer of its Puerto Rico’s Health Plans. With a career spanning over two decades, Shinto has acquired many skills and years of experience in managed healthcare. He holds three academic distinctions: a B.S. from Irvine-based University of California, a medical degree (M.D) from Stony Brook-based State University of New York, and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Redlands.

Before he joined Aveta Inc., Shinto worked at NAMM California as a Chief Medical Officer. Before NAMM, he served as Medical Pathways Management Company’s COO and CMO (Chief Medical Officer). Shinto had worked for Cal Optima Health Plan before joining MedPartners as its Medical Management’s Corporate Vice President from 1996 to 1997.

Penelope Kokkinides

Penelope Kokkinides joined InnovaCare’s leadership team in 2015 as the new Chief Administrative Officer. She has worked in numerous management roles within the managed healthcare system for the last 20 years and has gained a lot of skills and experience in the process. Penelope Kokkinides previously served as Vice President and COO of Clinical Operations at Aveta Inc. Before that post, she was Centerlight HealthCare’s COO and Executive Vice President – her job involved strategic oversight and running the managed care division. She also worked at Touchstone Health and AmeriChoice (UnitedHealth Group) serving as the COO and Vice President of Disease and Care Management respectively. According to HRMR Online,
